Few people in this world have as unique a
perspective on medical tourism as Canadian Alex Mrvosh – a
perspective that is both tragic and wonderfully inspiring; a
triumph of the human spirit over incredible odds.
Alex is an important part of our team here in
Thailand and your guide
in helping you select the best doctor, dentist and hospital in
Thailand for the particular treatment in which you are
interested.
For complete details of the
procedure in which you have an interest, here's
where you can get your
personal
price quote from Alex - including
recommended hospitals and doctors, prices, description of the
procedure, airport pick up, hotel options, recommended time in
Thailand and details of our
free Concierge services etc.
When Alex woke up one summer morning in 2006, his
first thought, as on many other such beautiful mornings, was how
happy he was to be enjoying life in the friendly town of Hat Yai in
Southern Thailand. He was young (mid forties), healthy and loved his
job as an English language teacher at a local Thai grade school. His
students were from age 8 to adult and a delight to teach. And as
with many of his friends and fellow expats, that special Thai magic
that seems to welcome all visitors to this friendly Kingdom, had
indeed blessed Alex and he was just happy to be living in Thailand.
After showering, the next thought was breakfast,
so Alex set off on his 100cc Honda Wave motor scooter to a nearby
Thai/Chinese buffet where he often picked up take away food to enjoy
at home - not your normal eggs and bacon. By this time a light, warm
rain had started to fall and, while on arrival at the restaurant, a
typical morning downpour kept everyone under cover.
But the rain soon stopped and Alex started on
his way home as today his classes at the local Grade School
started at Noon.
Alex never made it to school that day – or any day
after that, because incredibly, tragically, on the way home, a quite
minor accident toppled Alex on to the road and in to a coma. He
suffered just minor bruising to his body (his chest from the
speedometer). When he regained consciousness in the hospital, Alex's
first thought was that he had been handcuffed behind his back
because that's how it felt to be powerless and paralyzed from the
neck down.
The shock to the system would have traumatized
many for life. Alex, on the other hand, wanted to get through the
rehabilitation process as quickly as possible because he would not
be held back for long.
As you can imagine, getting back to Canada was no
easy task, but with the help of dedicated family members and
friends, and eventually the Canadian authorities, it was with mixed
feelings that Alex finally arrived back home for continued treatment
and evaluation.
"My doctors back in Canada told me that the
physicians in Thailand did a wonderful job on me and that there was
nothing different that they would have done if the accident had
occurred in Canada. The Thai team did a fantastic job of looking
after me until my repatriation back to Canada and the quality of the
emergency surgeries was exemplary.
"I spent two and a half months in hospital in
Thailand and the cost was thankfully so low compared to the cost
back home for the uninsured. I cannot speak highly enough of the
gentle nursing care and treatment by the skilled doctors and
technicians - all of it for about 20% of what it would cost you back
home.
For many, this devastating turn of events would
have been the end of Alex's hopes and dreams in Thailand, but Alex
was determined to return - at least for 6 months of every year, and
the
Pattaya Expats Club
(expats helping expats) and the medical
tourism opportunity provided the key to making it happen.
Although
your cosmetic surgery, dentistry or other elective surgery or
treatment certainly will not be as urgent as my own, I would be
thrilled to help you select the
right specialist for your needs. And I am sure that you will be
delighted with not only the outstanding care that you will receive,
but also the warm and friendly personal contact you will enjoy from
your interactions with your Thai caregivers. They seem to have such
a particular knack for this sort of thing in Thailand and I fear we
are losing it back in the West. Please fill out the on line form
for a
detailed price quote.
